Mathematics in 3D printing

It is just appeared the first publication in applied mathematics for 3D printing, dedicated to the automatic creation of printing supports
3D printing is being studied by computer scientists and engineers for many years, while mathematicians still consider the application of little relevance to their studies. Emiliano Cristiani (IAC-CNR) today published the first mathematical research dedicated to a typical problem of 3D printing, the creation of supports, also listing many open questions which can stimulate the imagination of mathematicians.
